  6. Please correct ........Poovinti toopula vanti...not choopulu.
Poovinti Toopulu means flower bow arrows.. (Manmatha banalu.)

Though I do not even know cycling, I feel at once as if I am riding on the race horse. The speed with which the song was rendered by the duo Susilamma & Massataaru surely subjects audience to this rare feeling…like a running stream it goes without losing the clarity either in feel, expression or diction- more especially of Susilamma. This is one of my most favourite songs which touches the subtlest part of my heart whenever I listen to it. R.R(R.Ramanna) Picures very befittingly adopted the same tune of Vishwanathan & Ramamurthy who gave music to the original Tamil song. Though Athreaya wrote it with his indelible mark of deep love expressions, at times, we are sure to feel that its adaptation of the Telugu words is more to suit the Tamil tune & for a while makes us think that it must have been written by other writers like Anisetty or Rajasree who are more known for writing songs suitable for Tamil tunes. To have a better comprehension & appreciation of the song word by word I feel , I should give the Telugu text of the song which runs as under:

  9. To tell precisely in our sweet Telugu language which alone can convey the correct meaning, the song runs like a wild water fall("కృద్ధ జలపాతం “)of the kind of which I could find in one of the another old song … ఆపాతమధురం… “ఈనాటి ఈ హాయీ” ( eeNaati ee haayee) of Jayasimha (జయసింహ).To analyse the greatness of the song, the poet makes use of the various forms of the letter “ట” so liberally that it dances according his wishes with its repetitions (పునరుక్త టకారం తో).Hats off to you Mavaakavi Aatreayaa!! He commences the song with the word “reapanTee.. రేపంటీ ” which puzzles us for a while what such an odd word conveys at the very beginning itself. Though Aatreayy normally uses very very easy words to convey great meaning, at times, even such words prove like food for thought; we need to dive deep to know what he means. After all a poet explores & sees all the places which even the Sun, who is the evidence for all actions & objects on the face of the universe, cannot see(రవిగానని చోటును కవి గాంచును) As a lay man, with my limited analytical ability,I feel, here “reapnTee” రేపంటీ means “like tomorrow” and why a comparision with to-morrow? ...because, if we recall the song “pulakinchani madi pulakinchu… పులకించనిమది పులకించు”, its author Aarudra, in one of the song’s stanza says…..”reapu reapanu teepikalatoa.. రేపు రేపను తీపికలలతో”. So when the hero says “reapanTee roopamkanTee” he means the beautiful form like the sweet dream. He goes further to say that his run is after her eye looks which are like the sharp arrows of the Cupid (Manmadha whose for whom flowers are his arrows)… రేపంటీ రూపం కంటీ,పూవింటీ తూపులవంటీ నీకంటీ చూపులవెంటా....నా పరుగంటీ.The heroine does not lag behind and loses no time to reply him in the same style & spirit saying that she too could find him, the Manmadha ..the king of LOVE holding the arrow of flowers to be showered on the lovers, like the lightsome to-morrow and brushes aside gently with shy saying..”you & your dreams..get aside” (రేపంటీ ..వెలుగే కంటీ పూవింటీ దొరనే కంటీ నీ కంటీ కలలూ.. కలలూ పొమ్మంటీ)The hero cannot keep quiet with the shower of such a praise from his love and expresses his cosmetic desire of his becoming a blossomed jasmine flower in her black plait and remaining so blended with her smiles. And he goes a further step ahead & asks her to come with him .. like the melodious tune of the flute going to bell in his future with the sound of her anklet (నే మల్లే పువ్వై విరిసీ,నీ నల్లని జడలో వెలిసీ, నీ చల్లని నవ్వుల కలసీ ..ఉంటే చాలంటీ నీ కాలి మువ్వల రవళి,నా భావి మోహన మురళి, ఈ రాగ సరళీ తరలీ పోదాం రమ్మంటీ).Though a lady with all the weakness oft attributed to a woman, she poses a challenge & retreats with a word of surrender saying that he arranges for a contest between his manliness and her beauty and let her lose in it (నీలోని మగసిరి తోటి... నా లోనీ సొగసుల పోటీ వేయించీ… నేనే ఓడీ పోనే పొమ్మంటీ).In the thick of any love game, it is ultimately the lover who compromises LEST the game does not take an unpleasant turn taking away all the bliss enjoyed till then and hence the hero…ending the play of mutual compliments and commendations says…” let us treat this a day of happiness on which I think you won and I lost AND I treat your victory as mine” (నేనోడీ నీవే గెలిచీ...నీ గెలుపూ నాదని తలచీ,రాగాలూ రంజిలు రోజే రాజీ రమ్మంటీ!!!)In fact, with all this our hero in this social film is nothing before the mythological Krishna who himself surrenders to Satyabhama despite being kicked pushing off the crown on his head. How beautiful was that poem of Nandi Thimmana’s “PaarujaataapaharaNam”was it!!What an excellent rendition it was by Masataru!!!!

(If you, with a feeling of love anger at heart kick me -your servant, I would only say that your delicate and beautiful foot, like getting pricked by a protruding thorn is pained .Is it good for me?)...All love birds or for that matter... a couple, at one point of time or other, must be experiencing this sort of tricky but pleasant situations(love fights) which act as safety valves in the routine life!!!!

  12. Dear Friends, Kudos to your post. Can I add a small comment.
The Girl says, Naa Kanti KaLalu, Kalalu nee sommanti. 1st KaLa is EXPRESSION. 2nd Kala is DREAM. I could have expressed better if I typed in Telugu font. Hope you understand. Follow the song carefully. You will catch it.
    Regards,

    Sharma.
